Can You Throw My Trash Away?

I work in an upscale store in an upscale neighborhood. Some days though I wonder what barn my customers grew up in. When I'm behind the cash register counter I've been handed lots of things after the customer asks:
"Do you have a trashcan back there?"
Me: "Yes." (Actually that's the old me.)
"Oh good, can you throw my trash away?"
Me: "Sure." (Actually that's the old me.)
Coffee cups, waded up paper, waded up paper with used gum inside, half-empty soda bottles -- those are the usual.

Recently while I was checking out a customer, a lady pig steps up and asks about the trash can. I am ever so accommodating and hold out my hand to collect her trash. It feels weird. I pull my hand back to look at it. It's a bunch of pebbles. I look up at her quizzically. I'm thinking, "why is she handing me rocks to throw away?"
Then she says:
"Those are rocks from my shoes. They were making me uncomfortable."
Gross! Sweaty rocks from the inside of her running shoes! Disgusting!

Now, when someone asks me if I have a trash can, I say sweetly:
"No, I'm sorry, someone took it away." (That's the new me. Until my manager finds out anyway.)
